Prince George's County, Howard County, and Montgomery County including the Government of District of Columbia now have Private Security Camera Incentive Programs intended to help deter crime and assist law enforcement with investigations.

Prince George's County Council has approved a bill requiring security cameras at some apartment buildings and senior housing residences. Prince George’s County Council hopes to cut down on crime with security cameras at some apartment buildings and senior living communities.

The Prince George’s County Council voted 9-2 in favor of a bill requiring apartments with more than 100 units and senior housing residences to install 24-hour cameras around buildings. The legislation requires those properties to install and maintain security cameras. Landlords and property managers must keep the video for 30 days. To help with cost, the bill includes a rebate of $5,000 for landlords and property managers. To read more about this bill click HERE.

The District of Columbia Private Security Camera Incentive Program, administered by the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants, encourages residents, businesses, non-profits and religious institutions to install security camera systems on their property and register them with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). Montgomery County has launched the Police-Private Security Camera Incentive Program to help people in high-priority areas qualify for rebates on the cost of new security cameras. The program will provide up to $250 for households installing one camera or up to $1,250 for five cameras for businesses and nonprofits in the priority areas. The Howard County Department of County Administration and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are soliciting grant applications for the County’s Nonprofit and Faith-Based Security Grant Program. The County has allocated $750,000 to support this one-time grant program through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. To read more or to apply click HERE.
